About me
Born and raised in San Antonio, Texas, in a household and community with Tanzanian and Pakistani roots, I had the pleasure of experiencing a diverse palette of foods, languages, and cultures that shaped my DNA. For context, being creative in my community is often considered an unpopular choice, with pressure to pursue degrees in fields like medicine, pharmacy, or law. So, you can imagine how bold a choice it was to pursue an art degree, let alone a Graphic Design degree. I began my design journey by learning about the foundations of design and researching pioneers like Milton Glaser, Paul Rand, and Paula Scher.
Attending the University of the Incarnate Word (UIW) exposed me to professors and resources that helped mold my design style. After graduation, I landed positions that were more pixel-centric, which further encouraged me to refine my design process, focusing primarily on digital work due to its fast-paced nature in sales. From there, I was offered an opportunity at UIW to become a communication coordinator, where I learned to collaborate with teams and further developed my understanding of the design process. This role allowed me to further build on some of my initial UX methods and refine technical skills like Figma and Figjam.
Given my continued interest in UX, I was able to pursue an opportunity in tech, combining pixel-centric design and UX methods to develop cohesive user experiences.
